Magic day
Magic Day (Which may change title to Day and Night, Sunlight and Moonlight or Dark and Light) anthology is now closed for dibs. Please send in your stories and puffs by Jan 14 OR let me know if you need or want to relinquish a subject.
WHAT IS IT?
Magic Day is a shared venture project for authors, coordinated by Sally Odgers of Affordable Manuscript Assessments and Workshops.
The goal is to write an anthology of stories for children aged roughly between 7 and 12 but including a few for older or advanced readers.
Each member of the project may choose one of the options below.
Please read the following terms and conditions carefully, especially if you are new to Prints Charming anthologies.
1. The stories should be between 500 and 2,000 words, and suitable for a G or PG audience. This length is not set in stone. A few shorter or longer will be fine.
2. The common element is that each story (or poem if you wish) features a magical or mythical being. There's a list below, but you may come up with something else. The stories are to be roughly half "light" (daylight) stories and half "dark" (nighttime or moonlight) stories. As this is an anthology for children, please avoid graphic horrors and nastiness. Daylight stories will be friendly to the nerves. Nighttime stories can be scary, sad, naughty, or just a bit unsettling. Since the book will have a firm demarcation point, this shouldn't be a problem. If you choose a night story, please include a couple of lines to highlight what makes it "night". That way parents, teachers, librarians or children themselves can avoid anything that is likely to give 'em nightmares.
3. No payment will be made for the stories, but each author will have a puff page to use as she or he pleases. These should be sent in with the stories. They can be updated if necessary before we go to press.
4. Authors will also have the right (but not the obligation) to buy copies of the anthology at cost. These can be resold, given away, awarded as prizes or used as author credits on a CV. All authors will be given a PDF copy of the anthology.
5. Stories will be professionally edited.
6. Copyright in each story will belong to the author. The edited version will belong to the author. Prints Charming Books will use each story only in this anthology. The authors may use their own stories elsewhere as and when they please. They may not use or quote from other writers' stories without written permission.
7. SUBMISSION OF STORIES and DEADLINES
Deadline for stories and puff pieces Jan 31st 2017
The book will be available in 2017.
Any questions? Send me an email sodgers(at)iinet.net.au
Want to claim an option? Email sodgers(at)iinet.net.au with Magic Day in the subject line.
Now, here are those options. Please note there's room for "day" and "night" for any option. This could just as well be "benign" and "dangerous". In this context "night" doesn't necessarily mean "evilly-intentioned". It just means "approach at your own risk."
If you find the slot you'd love to have is already taken you can always do a variation. For example, if "werewolf" is taken, you can always ask for "shifter". There really is room in this one for several aspects as long as we balance evenly between Day and Night.
